ESTABLISHMENT OF DEMONSTRATION FARM IN LUNGALUNGA

As a way of eliminating food insecurity and  pursuit of doing away with unprofitable conventional farming methods, Catholic Archdiocese of Mombasa through Integral Human Development has established a demonstration farm in Machanzuni-Lungalunga. Farmers are able to be trained, their queries answered and hope harvest reinstalled by the assigned agricultural extensional officers. As a learning process, they are also included as labor providers for the farm and paid for their service.

Goat breeds’ improvement, crops selection, nursery establishment, grafting and budding of fruit trees are the basic skills been introduced to the locals of Machanzuni. In addition to the farming skills also socio-economic build up has been prioritized as a way of sequentially eliminating poverty in the region. Savings and Internal lending(SILC) education has been provided through frequent workshops and trainings. Farmers have been encouraged to form market groups to enrich their bargaining power when selling farm produce.
